About the project

We were commissioned by the Crown Estate to produce a new brass handrail for the Glasshouse Street entrance to Piccadilly Circus Underground station. The brief was to create an exact replica of an existing handrail on the other side of the walkway. 

Based on site visits, we issued drawings, then fabricated the handrail in brass tubing bent to shape and brazed to produce perfect seamless joins. Using this traditional method ensured a perfect match with the much older original. 2.9 metres in length, it’s made as a single piece.

With time and human contact, the new handrail will take on the same patina as its much older neighbour, and soon look as though it’s always been there.
