Hilton Hotel, Docklands

In a landscape such as Docklands, everything is large. To make an impact in an area such as this you need to be bold and when our friends at Lavender & Stone commissioned us to produce planters for the scheme, they had to be beautiful, bold and large, very large.

About the project

This bold scheme required two large-scale planters to be installed either side of the main hotel entrance plus a further six planters to the side of the building and the bar entrance.

Either side of the main entrance, these planters measured 2.3m high, the largest we had produced at that time. Larger planters require a great deal of skill to produce because it's imperative when polishing that the corners are perfectly straight and true. The remaining planters were fabricated in the same style but sloping on all four sides in a conventional tapered design.

An added feature of these planters was that the bases were angled to perfectly match the sloping pavement. The straight back meant the planters could be positioned closer to the building meaning the backs all had to be notched to suit the buildings glazing bars.

The planters were originally powder coated in Titanium Metallic Silver and have since received this rather striking striped finish. The entire project was delivered to site both on time and on budget.
