The L K Bennet garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show was the perfect stage on which to demonstrate our craft, skill and problem solving capabilities. Again, working with a brief outline of design requirements, Clifton approached us with an idea, which we had to turn into a reality under strict budget and time constraints.
About the project
Obviously the main feature of the garden was the central sculpture. Fabricated from heavy steel profiles, it was then entirely clad with sheet metal that was polished and powder coated in a Titanium Metallic Silver finish. A lattice of rubber elastic formed the web pattern, which put tremendous pressure on the overall structure and had to be taken into consideration when designing the framework.
A sheet metal rill powder coated black internally carried coloured water under the main body of the sculpture. A curved wooden bench offered a seating area at the rear of the garden. In order to achieve this we developed a bracket system to allow the bench to be cantilevered so that there were no visible fixings.
Show gardens, particularly at Chelsea, are extremely pressurised, especially under the spotlight of BBC Gardeners World and it's viewers. We were delighted to deliver the completed metal work on time and the garden was a medal winner, testimony to the hard work put in by everyone involved.
