About the project

Hamish Mackie is one of Britain’s foremost wildlife sculptors, with works in public and private collections around the world. A regular exhibitor at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, his stand at the 2019 event was sponsored by land agents Knight Frank, and designed and built by leading landscaping contractor Bowles & Wyer as part of its 25^th anniversary celebrations.

Bowles & Wyer commissioned us to design and make a bespoke planter and pair of free-standing plinths for the stand. We created them in corten, pre-treated to ensure a fully-developed weathered oxidised surface finish in time for the Show. Adopting the same methods we use for our powder-coated mild steel planters achieved the smooth, seamless perfection required: all trade stands at Chelsea are judged, and we were delighted when Hamish received a coveted Five Star award.

The corten edging was produced by adapting our standard Series Two system: designed and manufactured entirely in-house, this gives a perfect fit and finish at much lower cost than bespoke.
